Bruker Announces Sale of 35 minispec(TM) Benchtop Time-Domain NMR Analyzers for Oilseed Quality Control to Trakya Birlik, a Turkish Agricultural Cooperative

May 31, 2011

ETTLLINGEN, Germany, May 31, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Bruker today announced the completion of a major multiple system order to Trakya Birlik, a Turkish Agricultural Cooperative. A total of 35 the Bruker minispec mq-one XL TD-NMR (time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance) seed analyzers were installed at Trakya Birlik's collection stations for sunflower seed harvesting.

Trakya Birlik has been a Bruker customer since many years, and the recent order completes Trakya Birlik's establishment of precise quality control throughout its nation-wide collection stations. The TD-NMR instruments are utilized during the harvesting season at collection stations to quantify the oil content of sunflower seeds. Farmers are paid based on the actual oil content, rather than the total weight.

The minispec mq-one XL Seed Analyzer combines the advantages of large (XL) sample volume and high sensitivity in a compact, single-unit system. The key application for this time-domain 7.5 MHz NMR analyzer is the precise quantification of oil and moisture in large seeds, especially sunflower and castor seeds. The minispec is very easy to use, and offers multilingual software for customers, who need a turn-key solution to comply with standard methods from national and international organizations like AOCS, ASTM, IUPAC, ISO and US GIPSA. Analysis is rapid and non-destructive, requiring no sample preparation or consumables.

Mr. Adnan Tekce, General Manager of Trakya Birlik, commented: "Trakya Birlik's investment into high performance instrumentation for Quality Control is in line with our mission to provide high quality products and to support the growth of increased oil content crops. Bruker's minispec mq-one XL analyzers are a key element to support our strategy. Since many years, Bruker is our trusted partner and competent supplier."

Trakya Birlik, established in 1966, today purchases the majority of sunflower seeds harvested in Turkey, and is also a major importer of sunflower seeds to Turkey, as well as a producer of refined products like margarine, sunflower oil and feed.

Mr. Urban Faeh, President of Bruker Optics, added: "With the minispec product line, and specifically our dedicated turn-key mq-one TD-NMR analyzers, Bruker can provide an unmatched QC product portfolio for food analysis, ranging from Near-Infrared analyzers to TD-NMR analyzers. We are very grateful to Trakya Birlik for selecting our oilseed QC solution."
