SAO PAULO, Jan 05, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Bruker's new South America headquarters in Atibaia, near Sao Paulo, Brazil, announced today a new framework agreement for up to one million U.S. dollars in business with SABMiller's Latin American headquarters to supply local breweries throughout South and Latin America with Bruker BioSpin's proprietary EPR (Electron Paramagnetic Resonance) technology, the e-scan(TM) beer analyzer. The e-scan is a bench-top analyzer for quality control in beer production that utilizes proprietary EPR methods for rapid, automated predictions of the optimum shelf life (flavor stability) of bottled beer. The first e-scan systems will be delivered in the first quarter of 2010, with order completion expected in the middle of 2010.
EPR plays an important role in food quality control due to its ability to detect and quantify free radicals, also referred to as reactive oxygen species (ROS). Bruker's e-scan beer analyzer can measure the beer oxidation profile to evaluate beer during the many stages of the brewing process. The combination of the e-scan's compact size and Bruker's patented, automated EPR/lagtime assay (US 6,462,546B1) has won considerable acceptance in the brewing industry. SABMiller is one of the largest beer producers in the world and has been a key customer of Bruker for many years. The strong record of close collaboration between Bruker and SABMiller has now set new standards in the field of beer quality and process control.
Professor Barry Axcell, Group Chief Brewer of SABMiller commented: "SABMiller has a long standing commitment to giving our consumers high quality, fresh-tasting beers. We are committed to using only the finest, natural ingredients and rely on the skill of our brewmasters combined with innovative and leading-edge technology such as the e-scan to find natural ways to preserve the fresh taste of our beers."
