BILLERICA, Mass., Dec 14, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Bruker Detection Corporation today announced that it has been awarded a contract for ten (10) production systems for the Improved Point Detection System - Lifecycle Replacement (IPDS-LR) program through the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD) for chemical detection use by the United States Navy.
The overall effort is being managed by the Joint Project Manager Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Contamination Avoidance (JPM NBC CA). The award is for delivery of ten systems of the design that passed the rigorous and demanding Production Verification Test (PVT) and Follow-on Operational Test and Evaluation (FOT&E). The total initial contract amount is greater than one million dollars. The entire program is expected to deliver approximately 200 additional systems over a five year span.
The IPDS-LR is based on Bruker's RAID-S2 system, a wall-mounted trace gas detector for the detection of chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs). This system utilizes Bruker's proprietary, advanced ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) technology. TheRAID-S2 is specifically designed for long-term monitoring of ambient air for the presence of hazardous chemical vapors in the interior or exterior of ships, buildings or shelters.
Mr. Frank Thibodeau, Vice President of Bruker Detection Corporation, commented: "The IPDS-LR PVT and FOT&E consisted of an exceptionally challenging test regime under demanding naval environments that included qualifications for extreme shock, vibration, environmental, and analytical requirements. The Bruker IPDS-LR performed very well in these performance evaluations that collected over 15,000 hours of shipboard operating time. We are delighted to have been selected for the IPDS-LR program by the JPEO-CBD, and believe that Bruker's robust and proven RAID(TM) IMS technology, excellent detection capabilities, superior engineering design and proprietary industry-leading false-alarm suppression have led to this contract award. These technological features are also built into our industry-leading RAID-M handheld detector, RAID-XP portable combined chemical and gamma radiation detector, as well as our RAID-AFMAutonomous Facility Monitor for critical building and infrastructure protection, which has been developed under a separate U.S. Department of Homeland Security development contract."
