GÖTTINGEN, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 21, 2009--
At the 61st Annual Meeting of the German Society for Hygiene
and Microbiology, Bruker Daltonics announces that Labor
Becker-Olgemöller in Munich has installed the Bruker
MALDI Biotyper as their next-generation, rapid
molecular microbial identification system. One key factor in Labor
Becker-Olgemöller’s decision was the MALDI Biotyper’s
capability to be used as a multiple workstation solution, which allows
for remote control of the instrument from multiple microbiology
workstations in the clinical laboratory via remote clients.
In this multiuser mode, the MALDI Biotyper fits smoothly
into the existing workflows in Labor Becker-Olgemöller, and even allows
remote analysis and reporting of the results from any office. The system
at Labor Becker-Olgemöller is already the seventh MALDI Biotyper
that has been placed in the Munich area, demonstrating the rapid
acceptance of its paradigm-changing molecular approach to microbial
identification.
Prof. Dr. Bernhard Olgemöller stated: “We are pleased to see our
laboratory workflows streamlined by using the MALDI Biotyper
in a multi workstation environment. We have a throughput of more than a
thousand samples for microbial analysis per day, and we need to bet on
the fastest and most efficient technology for that purpose in order to
stay cost-effective.”
Dr. Guido Mix, Director of Microbiology at Bruker Daltonics, added:
“With the full integration of the MALDI Biotyper at Labor
Becker-Olgemöller, we have reached a new level of sophistication and
throughput in the usage of our MALDI Biotyper in a
clinical routine laboratory environment.”
About the Bruker MALDI Biotyper
Bruker’s dedicated MALDI Biotyper solution enables
molecular identification, taxonomical classification or dereplication of
microorganisms like bacteria, yeasts and fungi. Classification and
identification of microorganisms is achieved reliably and fast using
proteomic fingerprinting with high-throughput MALDI-TOF mass
spectrometry. Applications include clinical routine microbial
identification, environmental and pharmaceutical analysis, taxonomical
research, food and consumer product processing and quality control, as
well as in marine microbiology. Bruker’s robust MALDI Biotyper
method requires minimal sample preparation efforts and offers low cost
per sample. The MALDI Biotyper is available in a
research-use-only version, as well as in an IVD version according to the
EU directive EC/98/79 in certain EU countries. For more information,
